Klay Thompson has secured a record-breaking contract extension with the Golden State Warriors. The five-year, $190 million deal is the most lucrative contract ever given to a two-guard in NBA history.
The deal, which was finalized on Monday night, has a player option after the fourth season. Thompson will make $32.7 million in his first season and will become eligible for a supermax extension in 2021.
The Warriors were determined to keep the All-Star shooting guard in the fold. Thompson has been a key part of the Warriors’ three championship teams, and his off-court presence has been just as valuable.
The deal is a major win for the Warriors and Thompson, who has been a loyal and valuable member of the organization for the past eight seasons.
